Dmitry Azarov has become the acting Governor of the Samara Region


Vladimir Putin has held a meeting with Dmitry Azarov during which he has appointed him as the acting Governor of the Samara Region. The Kremlin website reports about it.

In 2006-2008 Dmitry Azarov was the first deputy head of Samara. In the city administration he supervised activities of finance departments, economic development, municipal economy and ecology, industrial policy, business and communication.

In 2008-2010 he was the Minister for environmental management, forestry and environmental protection of the Samara Region. 

In October, 2010 Dmitry Azarov has officially entered a position of the head of Samara. In September, 2014 he has become a senator of the Federation Council of Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation from the Samara Region.

The previous Governor of the Samara Region Nikolay Merkushkin is appointed as the President's special representative on interaction with the World congress of the Finno-Ugric people. Nikolay Merkushkin has headed the Samara Region since May, 2012.
